Although the majority of women have a normal healthy pregnancy at some stage during the nine months most
will
suffer from one or more pregnancy related ailments. Many medications designed to alleviate such symptoms are
not foetus-friendly so it is hardly surprising that more and more expectant mothers are turning to complimentary
therapies. We specialise in pregnancy reflexology, massage and aromatherapy. We also give teaching sessions
to
expectant couples.
pregnancy reflexology
Reflexology can provide effective and safe relief from most of the discomforts
that can be experienced during pregnancy.
These may include:
- Essential hypertension
- Social stress
- Oedema
- Cystitis
- Insomnia
- Morning sickness
- Pelvic pain
- Constipation
- Carpel tunnel
- Reduces headaches
- Can also help induce labour by stimulating the release of oxytocin which encourages uterine contractions
- And has a balancing effect postnatally
The Association of Reflexologists says “Nearly everyone can benefit from having reflexology during pregnancy”.
Women that have undergone a course of reflexology with me often find that the overall length of their labour is
reduced. A casual study by Motha and McGrath (1993) on 64 women showed that it was effective in treating a
range of symptoms during pregnancy. Labour length also appeared to be reduced and 89% of women in the study
achieved a normal vaginal delivery. The postnatal period is also important, once the baby has arrived life can be
hectic, lack of sleep, erratic feeding times and general exhaustion often occur. Reflexology at this stage can help
aid
calm and relaxation, aid lactation and help reduce the incidence of postnatal depression.
In order to benefit from the effects of reflexology you can undergo regular treatments throughout your pregnancy.
The service I offer provides continuity for women throughout their pregnancy, preparing the mind and body for birth.
